Duke expected to reopen around Dec 8
The Duke of Wellington Inn on Main Street is expected to reopen in early December. Its owner – Stonegate Pub Company – has reached agreement with new licensees who will move in later this month.
They bring with them an excellent reputation for food and it’s hoped that this, plus cask ales, will ensure a good future for the pub.
At one stage it looked like the pub was to be sold and the Parish Council made contingency plans to see if it might be bought for the community, but in the event Stonegate have opted to keep this pub and the other in the village – the Old Star – which they also own.
The Parish Council had taken out Assets of Community Value orders on both pubs some years ago. The village is fortunate in having two pubs. The Old Star continues to thrive and its hoped that the Duke – which appeals to a slightly different and more food orientated audience – will now thrive again too.
