Parish Council elections take place in May

The region will go to the polls on Thursday 2nd May for local and parish council elections.

In East Keswick, five present Parish Councillors have been nominated for re-election. They are Andrew Batty, Judith Pentith, Becky Holdsworth, Gemma Plowright, Alison Waterfield.

One Parish Councillor is not seeking re-election. Laura Haigh is standing down due to work commitments but is hoping to rejoin the Parish Council at some stage in the future. Chairman Andrew Batty said Laura’s contribution would be missed and she had been a valuable asset to the Council over recent years.

Another villager, Chantal Platt of Meadowcroft, has been nominated for election. Chantal’s nomination means that six people are seeking to be elected to the seven vacancies. If there are seven or fewer nominations then those applicants are re-elected uncontested and no election will take place. If anyone is interested in being nominated for the Parish Council they are advised to contact the Parish Clerk, June Gallant, as soon as possible.
