Guides and brownies need new leaders to avoid closure

The current leaders of both the East Keswick and Bardsey Brownies and Guides groups are stepping down at Christmas. Without any new leaders to step up and take their places, both units will close. It will be extremely sad for our community if Brownies and Guides became a thing of the past – our Rainbows unit also closed in the summer. Some of the current girls have said “I really enjoy Brownies, it’s great fun to make new friends” and “I love Brownies, I’ve only just started and I will be sad if I can’t keep going”. And a parent has said “It’s really important that my children are able to join their peers in local groups, especially with the lack of a village school [in East Keswick] so the children scatter in different directions. It helps ensure our children feel a sense of belong in their local community”.

Do you think you could spare some time to help run one of these groups. Girlguiding provide plenty of support to new leaders and the current leaders live within the community and will offer plenty of advice. Think how rewarding it could be! Think how much you got out of it yourself, could you give a bit back? You could offer to help Brownies by contacting or Guides at – the day/time that the group meets could perhaps be adjusted if the right people step forward to make it happen.

Do it for the girls!
