Travellers leave and clean up completed
Two caravans of travellers have moved on from Crabtree Lane car park after camping overnight for three days last week. The public car park is owned by East Keswick Parish Council and favoured by ramblers. Two caravans arrived on Good Friday and stayed throughout the Easter weekend. At the instigation of parish councillors the police visited and were told by the travellers that they would be moving on quickly. The Easter public holiday hampered the progress of gaining the intervention of the appropriate departments of Leeds City Council.
The last of the caravans has now left. Fires had been lit and rubbish left behind which has now been cleared by special visits of Leeds Environmental Action Team. The Parish Council will now be looking at what lessons can be learned and how to prevent a recurrence.
