Post Office reopens in village April 21

A twice weekly Post Office is to open in the Village Hall from late April in a joint initiative between the Parish Council and the Village Hall Committee.

The previous Post Office in West End Stores closed in August 2013 following the resignation of the Post Mistress. That led to lower custom for the village shop which followed suit and closed several months later. Since then there had been talk of a Post Office opening within a shop at Bardsey Bank Top but negotiations broke down.

Peter Guildford, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee said ‘It was a sad day for everyone when our village post office closed so we are delighted to have been able to work with the Parish Council to reach this solution’. Gaynor Anning, Chairman of East Keswick Parish Council adds ‘Since the closure of the village shop and Post Office, the Parish Council has worked hard to secure alternative arrangements for villagers and welcomes this initiative. We do hope the new facility will be well supported by everyone’.

The Post Office will occupy space within the Village Hall on Tuesday afternoons (12 – 2) and Thursday mornings (10 – 12). Peter Guildford added ‘it’s our intention to offer light refreshments during the opening hours and, if demand is high the sessions may well be extended in the future’.
