Bridge parapet rebuilt after car crash

A motorist ‘blinded by low winter sun’ crashed into the parapet of the bridge carrying Main Street over Keswick Beck recently. The bridge, near Blacksmiths Cottage, suffered severe damage to the stone wall and iron railings on the village side. Recently stone masons engaged by Leeds City Council Highways department have started work restoring the bridge to the original condition. New stone has been added to match the original.

The lady motorist, who has asked to remain anonymous, was unhurt in the accident though the car was badly damaged.
