Tour de France will result in road closures and bus changes

The first stage of the Tour de France in Yorkshire on Saturday 5th July will result in road closures near the village and changes to village bus routes.

The A61 Leeds to Harrogate road will be closed from central Leeds to Harewood Bridge from 5am until around 3pm, as will the A659 from Harewood to Otley. A free public viewing area is being provided at Harewood just inside the entrance arch and access by car will be permitted along the nearby stretch of the A61 but only until 6.30am. The A659 Harewood Road will be closed at Gateways from 6.30am

The road to Leeds via Wike and Slaid Hill will be open but it will not be possible to access or cross the Harrogate Road or Scott Hall Road from 5am. Villagers heading for Leeds should use the A58 Wetherby Road or Roundhay Park Lane from Slaid Hill. However, Regent Street in Leeds will be closed so your route from Harehills to Leeds centre should be via Harehills Road and Beckett Street past St James Hospital

One major problem would be for any villager wanting to reach areas west of the A61 such as Horsforth or Bradford who will face very significant diversions via south Leeds or the M621

The village bus service X99 will run normally but will be subject to diversion in Leeds City Centre, unable to serve The Headrow. It will be diverted between Harehills and the terminus at Leeds. Passengers returning from Leeds will be able to board at Infirmary Street but not the usual stops on The Headrow, Eastgate, Regent Street, Roseville Road and Roundhay Road.

The 923 Tadcaster to Otley service will terminate at East Keswick. No buses will serve Harewood or Otley.
