Village Post Office to close
East Keswick’s Post Office is to close on August 28th following the resignation of the sub postmaster.
Diane had reluctantly been forced into this position by a combination of circumstances. There had been a fall in income due to more people sorting out bills online than over the counter and the Post Office had reduced the amounts it paid for some transactions such as road fund licences. In addition payments for the lottery terminal had been substantially reduced as another outlet was open within three miles.
The village shop will continue at least for three months. The Post Office are expected to advertise for a replacement sub postmaster.
The Post Office and Village Shop are important amenities in East Keswick and both Diane and Hazel are popular figures. East Keswick Parish Council is very concerned about the problem and will be seeking to help find resolutions in coming weeks.
