Public meeting to launch Neighbourhood Plan
Local communities have been give real power in determining and shaping their future by provisions in the new Communities Act which recently became law. One facet of this legislation is that a community can create a neighbourhood plan which would ultimately go to local referendum and have real legal weight with councillors, planner and utilities.
East Keswick Parish Council is encouraging the creation of a Neighbourhood Plan group and a public meeting is being held on Wednesday 26th September at 7.30pm in East Keswick Village Hall.
This is your chance to have some input into what that neighbourhood plan might contain. A steerin g group will be created which will consult widely before its final recommendations go to public vote which would then give them legal weight.
What sort of things might you be concerned about? Here’s some thoughts. There are plans to build up to 1500 new homes within a mile of the village. What impact might this have? What are your views about the availability or desirability of affordable houses or retirement housing? About schools, policing, cycle paths, bus routes, flooding, parking, boundaries, supermarkets, schools.
If you have a view on these subjects or others, have a skill that might be of value to the group, want to contribute, join in or merely listen and observe, make a date in your diary now.
