Holiday home eyesore to be removed

An eyesore which has spoiled a village walk for decades is to be cleared. More than half a century ago hoilday homes on Gateon House Lane provided city dwellers a country break. But when domestic holidays lost popularity the holiday homes became empty and were simply left to rot. Today their remains clutter the hedgerow on part of a popular circular walk round village footpaths.

East Keswick Parish Council asked Leeds City Councils’s senior compliance officers to take a look and following this intervention the landowner has been given two months to remove the debris from the hedgerow.

Do you remember the holiday homes in use, have any memories or photographs of them? If so, this website and our colleagues at East Keswick Local History Group would be interested to hear. Drop a line to andrew.batty@cmsadvertising.co.uk
