Butchers shop reopens under new management

The village butchers store is under new management and its future looks good. In mid-November, the previous incumbent – Philip – closed the business when negotiations for its sale broke down. However we can report that from Monday 7th November, the business has been transferred to R P Setchfield family butchers, and it’s very much business as usual.

Richard Setchfield is an established local butcher running outlets in Roundhay, Cross Gates and Harrogate. His stores have a reputation for fresh locally sourced products and Richard said he wants to combine the strengths of the Illingworth brand with the strengths of his own brand to create an even better offering for East Keswick and surrounding villages. He told us ‘in an ideal world there would have been a four week handing over period where we could have learned customer preferences but sadly that wasn’t possible. We really want to retain existing customers and add to them so we welcome villagers’ feedback and comments about our product range. We really are listening’.

Some previous Illingworth staff have been retained such as Adam and Alan and the shop currently has a very experienced butcher in the form of Neil, under loan from the Roundhay branch.

The product range is essentially the same as previous and includes the popular ready meals, sandwiches and the same recipe Pork Pies and larger meat pies. More fresh meat will be available including new cuts popular in Setchfield’s other branches.

Opening times are unchanged at Tuesday to Friday 8-5 and Saturdays 8-1. Christmas turkey orders are now being taken along with orders for aged beef and the usual pies in all the well known sizes.

The village butchers has always been an asset to the community and villagers will be delighted that its future is in such good safe hands.
