Main Street to close for roadsurfacing – buses diverted
Long awaited resurfacing to Main Street finally takes place from Monday 19th July, concluding on Tuesday 27th July (though road closure permissions are to the end of that week in case work overruns). Whitegate will then get resurfaced, see separate news article.
The Parish Council had been lobbying Leeds Highways for the repair and reinstatement of the main roads through the village following major gas work repairs eighteen months ago, but Leeds Highways wanted to wait until the conclusion of a sewer problem at the junction with Laurel Close. Winter frosts had seriously affected the road surfaces earlier this year, the section along Whitegate particularly.
Now these roadworks can begin and are scheduled to start on Monday 19th until Tuesday 27th July. During that period, sections of the road will be closed to through traffic between 9.30am and 3.30pm on weekdays. Whilst the road is closed, bus services are to be diverted. Service 99 buses will run directly from Bardsey Bank Top to Collingham, missing out the village. The last bus to Wetherby before the daytime closedown will be the 0918. The first after the closedown will be the 1618. The last bus to Leeds before the closedown will be the 0855. The first after the closedown will be 1600. Service 923 buses will divert via Wike which will mean that the nearest point to board will be Keswick Lane, Bardsey.
No shuttle bus is being provided this time but it is hoped that by limiting the road closure to the middle of the day and excluding the weekends, that inconvenience will be kept to a minimum.
