Have you considered being a Parish Councillor?
East Keswick's Parish Council has a vacancy in its seven member team and as it has arisen between elections it has the power to co-opt, which basically means appoint, a new member.
Despite the name, the council is nothing to do with the church. The title simply refers to the area of responsibility which is the parish boundary. The council meets once a month at the Village Hall and none of its members represent any political party, just a desire to help protect and improve the village and environs we live in.
