Digging for victory in WW1 - Bardsey extends invitation
8 March 2017
Bardsey Horticultural Society is keen to make East Keswick villagers aware of its existence and extend an invitation to visit its events. The April meeting is on the subject of Digging for Victory in the war and how women stepped into men's shoes to keep the home fires burning.
Wendy Taylor will be bringing her grandmother's WW! Land Army breeches and other artefacts from the period to support her talk about digging for victory and growing food and crops to help feed the British population. Women were involved in agriculture and horticulture due to men going to fight in the forces and this the Land Army was as vital in WW1 as it was in WW2. Wendy's talk will also touch on new horticultural practices of the time. It takes place at 7.45pm on Friday 7th April 2017 at Bardsey Village Hall. A small fee will be charged.
