22 September

The new manager of the Duke of Wellington has been speaking to the East Keswick website on her plans for the pub which has been closed since June. Zoe Haydock, who is from the village, moves in soon but the pub won't open until the middle of the month to allow for refitting, restocking, some redecoration and a full deep clean.

Zoe told us that she would rather get things right than rush matters and plans a 'soft opening' around the middle of the month with a more publicised launch at Halloween.

In place of a specific restaurant area, Zoe plans that customers will be able to sit and order food for any table. Families, children and dogs will be welcome up to early evening and she hopes walkers and cyclists will feel as welcome popping in for a coffee, as well as those wanting just a drink or a  snack or meal. The menu will reflect traditional pub favourites but with a big emphasis on home made and locally sourced.

Timothy Taylors Landlord and Leeds Pale will be the regular cask beers with two other guest ales which villagers will be welcome to suggest and vote on. Opening hours are likely to be 12 noon to 11pm daily (10.30 closing on Sundays). Food will be available seven days though the menu might be restricted early week.

As a villager herself Zoe is keen to listen to - and respond to - customer suggestions. Plans are still fluid at the moment but Zoe has promised to keep the village informed through this website, so watch this space for more details of the opening over the next few weeks.
