Severe grit shortage could leave the village cut off if bad snows return
The shortage of grit stocks at Leeds City Council is now so severe that only A roads would be gritted in the city if bad weather returned this month.
Although East Keswick remains on the priority list of the 800 miles of roads to be gritted as previously reported on this site, this figure is being more than halved during the remaining weeks of winter to conserve critically low stocks. In reality this means that only the A58 and A659 locally will get attention creating the real risk that East Keswick could lose its scheduled bus services and school buses.
The severest weather might be behind us. The last day of winter is March 20th.
