The former East Keswick and Bardsey cubs leader, Edward Vickerman, has been awarded Outstanding New Teacher of the Year for the North of England, which earns him a place in the televised final of the UK Teachers Awards 2009 to be shown on BBC2 on Sunday 24th October at 6pm. Ed's award is all the more remarkable becuase he is dyslexic and was told as a boy that his dream of being a teacher could never happen.

Ed, who lives in Shadwell, led Bardsey Cubs for many years before handing over to Ashley Cullingworth in 2007. Bardsey Cubs has a roughly equal proportion of East Keswick boys as the precursor - Beavers - runs in East Keswick Village Hall for both villages.
